My Newest Discovery

It's no secret to those around me that I don't like silence. I have a very hard time sitting in a quiet room. I'd rather have music playing, be talking, have the TV on or something. Heck, I even sleep with a fan on because I can't handle complete silence. My husband as usual is very patient with my need for noise and allows me the small pleasure of a fan running year round in our bedroom. My family has always teased me about my "Verbal Diarrhea", because if there is an opprotunity for a silent moment in a group of people my voice is usually the one filling it. Who likes akward silences? Besides it seems that I always have something to say, for example..."How 'bout them Canucks?" haha - Canuck, yuck. (This is what comes out when I'm nervous or don't like the direction the current convo is headed.)

Anyways I digress. Since being trapped at home for the last 6 months I have had lots and lots of silent moments. You know you've watched too much daytime television when Martha Stewart says Hello at the beginning of her show and you greet her right back - out loud! So, I headed to my trusty computer for a solution. Music has always been a HUGE part of life for me. I love to listen to music and more importantly I love to sing-a-long. Now it may not come out exactly on key and I pitty the person subject to listening to me but none the less it lifts my spirits. Not only is it a great way to worship but I find that I can express all of the bottled up emotions I have with a simple song. When I lived at home I usually did this seated at the piano for hours, playing whatever it took to sooth my soul. Since leaving home and our piano I have resorted to CD's and music downloads.

After spending some time searching around I discovered this wonderful invention on Yahoo! that allows you to personalize your own radio station. You select the genre, artists and albums you like to hear and it creates a station for you. As each song plays you rate it based on whether or not you like the song, artist and album and if you want to hear it again. If you don't like what you are hearing you press skip and move on.

This station is wonderful for me because I have a mix of Christmas music (for the time being), Christian music and country. I am able to listen to the things I like and nothing I don't. I've got a link to my personal station on the site but I suggest you check it out for yourselves and give it a try. Forget the boring old FM radio stations of yester-year, full of commercials and trivial banter and get the next best thing - commercial free, personal radio.
